Requirements for an associate degree or diploma
Students in the associate degree program, which normally requires 18 months of full-time study, take classes in medical office procedures, health care law and ethics, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and medical transcription. They also receive a thorough grounding in keyboarding, MS Office, and other business topics. They take a minimum of 30 hours of general education credits, designed to strengthen critical thinking, communication and reasoning skills. Students in the diploma program have many of the same courses, with the exception of general education classes, which are not required for the diploma. A diploma program usually requires 12 months of full-time study.
